National Center for Wildlife discovers new scorpion species in Riyadh

RIYADH — A groundbreaking discovery has been made by the Nationwide Heart for Wildlife (NCW), as a brand new species of scorpion from the Leiurus genus was recognized within the Majami Al-Hadb Reserve, situated in southern Riyadh.

Distinguished from different scorpion species throughout the Kingdom, this discovery elevates the whole recognized world species rely to 22, with 5 of them thriving in Saudi Arabia.

The distinguished scientific journal Zookeys showcased this newfound scorpion in its Sept. 7, 2023, version, and the species has been formally added to the Zoobank and Genbank lists.
