Minister of economy and planning leads Saudi delegation to 2023 SDG summit

RIYADH — On behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Al-Ibrahim led the Saudi Arabian delegation to the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit in New York.

The summit, which aims to expedite progress toward achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 Agenda, was held from September 18 to 19. This momentous gathering occurred during the United Nations General Assembly high-level week at the UN headquarters, with the overarching theme “Rescue Plan for People and Planet.”

Distinguished attendees at this year’s SDG Summit include heads of state, senior government officials, thought leaders, representatives from international organizations, the private sector, and civil society. The United Nations General Assembly president presided over the summit’s proceedings.

Minister Al-Ibrahim was slated to engage in a series of meetings with several high-ranking government officials during the course of the summit.

The SDG Summit serves as a crucial platform for offering political guidance on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its associated SDGs. It also serves to evaluate progress and emerging challenges while fostering increased commitment to hasten the implementation of these vital global goals.
