Work injuries’ percentage during Q2 of 2023 decrease by 6%

RIYADH — The General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) announced that the percentage of work injuries during the second quarter of 2023 have witnessed a decrease by 6%, compared to the same period in 2022.

GOSI’s statistical report on work injuries for the Q2 of 2023 revealed that the preventive and educational field efforts, along with the establishment’s commitment in applying the occupational health and safety standards for the workers has contributed in reducing the work injuries.

The past three months has witnessed the registry of 5,845 new work injuries, compared to the same period in 2022, where it has recorded at that time 6,198 injuries, despite the increase in the percentage of subscribers by 10.9%, by 10.45 million subscribers, compared to 9.35 million.

The number of establishments increased by 28%, reaching 1.2 million establishments, compared to 890.2 thousand establishments during the same period.

The work injuries are determined according to the gender, age, region, and the type of the accident. Men were recorded the most exposed to work injuries with 5,623 injuries, compared to women who recorded 222 injuries.

While those at the age from 30-34 are the most age category exposed to the injuries, recording 1,322 injuries.

As for the regions in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh region has come on top of the list with 1,783 injuries, followed by Al-Sharqiyah region with 1,056 injuries, then Makkah region and Jeddah with 763 injuries.

The injury resulting from exposure to inanimate/living mechanical forces occupied the highest rank according to the type of accident, with 3,472 work injuries.

Injuries due to falls came in second place in work injuries, with a number of 1,556 injuries, the report indicated that the third place was due to traffic accidents, with 542 work injuries.

It is noteworthy that the GOSI is continuing with its field awareness efforts to maintain the safety and health of subscribers, reduce the percentage of injuries, and enhance commitment and prevention in work environments.

GOSI conducted more than 30,000 preventive visits, as well as provided support for more than 6,300 establishments to improve the levels of occupational safety and health at work sites.

This comes within GOSI’s responsibility to implement the Occupational Hazards Branch, one of its branches, which provides many benefits to the injured subscribers.

It includes cash compensation and medical care that contribute to achieving and strengthening insurance protection for customers.
