King Salman International Airport will be one of the largest airports in the world, according to Saleh Al-Jasser, the minister of transportation and logistics, who also stated that there will be stages of expansion starting with baby steps.

The announcement of the opening of Riyadh Airlines was the most recent step in the expansion of the Saudi Arabian capital city’s air transportation network, according to Al-Jasser.

The minister of transportation said, “Recently, terminals 3 and 4 at Riyadh Airport were launched, and it will be followed by subsequent phases in growth until the full opening of King Salman Airport in Riyadh.

Al-Jasser stated, “There are transitional stages because it will take some time to establish the Riyadh Air Company and because it will take some time to complete Saudi Airlines’ development of its Jeddah operations center. Saudi Airlines will concentrate its operations in Jeddah, while Riyadh Air will concentrate its operations in Riyadh.

The objective of Saudi Arabia to become a prominent worldwide hub for trade and tourism will be considerably advanced by the country’s development of one of the largest airports in the world.

It is anticipated that the King Salman International Airport in Riyadh’s six parallel runways will boost Saudi Arabia’s non-oil gross domestic product by SR27 billion ($7.18 billion) annually.

In addition to increasing aircraft traffic from 211,000 to over 1 million flights annually, the airport will help Saudi Arabia’s annual passenger traffic expand from the current 29 million travelers to 120 million by the year 2030 and 185 million by the year 2050.

The new airport will be totally run on renewable energy, according to the Saudi Press Agency. Its design will incorporate cutting-edge green technologies to achieve LEED Platinum certification.

By 2050, the project’s King Khalid-named terminals, which will be developed by the Public Investment Fund, will be able to transport 3.5 million tons of cargo. 103,000 new direct and indirect jobs would be generated by the King Salman Airport.

The SPA research predicts that it will grow into an acropolis centered on innovation, top-notch operations, and a positive customer experience. The airport’s design will reflect Riyadh’s character and Saudi culture to ensure that tourists and transit travelers have a memorable trip.

According to SPA, the airport project is consistent with Saudi Arabia’s goal to make Riyadh one of the top ten cities in the world for economic development and to support the city’s population growth to 15-20 million people by the year 2030.
