Why have COVID-19 fatalities recently increased in China? An official from the Ministry of Health explains

Dr. Abdullah Bin Mufreh Asiri, Deputy Minister for Preventive Health and Infectious Diseases Consultant, has explained why the number of COVID-19 fatalities in China recently increased to more than 60,000 deaths in one month.

He clarified that the cause of this massive increase is due to two major factors, the first of which is improper vaccination coverage for the elderly.

The second reason is that vaccines with limited effectiveness against the Omicron mutant and its subspecies are being used.

It is worth noting that, despite adhering to the “zero-Covid” policy that has been in place since the beginning of the pandemic three years ago, China is currently experiencing a significant increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19.
