On Thursday, a 27-member surgical team led by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah successfully separated Iraqi conjoined twins Ali and Omer in a complex 11-hour surgery at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital (KASCH) in Riyadh.

The surgery, which is the 54th under the Saudi program for the separation of conjoined twins, came in implementation of the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to Dr. Al Rabeeah, an Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief).

A team of 27 doctors and specialists, as well as technicians and nursing staff, performed the surgery in six surgical phases.

The twins, Omar and Ali, were joined in the lower chest and abdomen, according to Al-Rabeeah. They also shared a liver, bile ducts, and intestines.

He thanked and thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for their ongoing support and oversight of the Saudi Medical Program to separate conjoined twins.

Al-Rabeeah emphasized the Kingdom’s pioneering role in humanitarian work in general and medical work in particular, saying the Saudi program has operated on 127 conjoined twins from 23 countries over the past 32 years.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah thanked the medical team for their efforts and said the achievement reflected the wise Saudi leadership’s eagerness to help people wherever they were.

He went on to say that it also reflected Saudi Arabia’s excellence in the medical sector, which is in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of developing the country’s health sector and improving its quality and efficiency.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah expressed appreciation and gratitude to King Salman and the Crown Prince on behalf of his fellow members of the medical team for the generous support received by the Saudi program for the separation of conjoined twins.

Dr. Abdul-Sattar Hadi Al-Janabi, Iraqi Ambassador to the Kingdom, praised the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for its unending humanitarian support and efforts. He also lauded the efforts of the medical team led by Dr. Al-Rabeeah and expressed his joy at the successful separation of the twins Omar and Ali.

The twins’ parents also expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Saudi leaders for the exceptional care and treatment provided to the twins. They praised the medical team’s expertise and the Kingdom’s outstanding humanitarian work, as well as the warm welcome and hospitality they received during their visit. — SPA
