For visitors to Saudi Arabia’s holy sites, goods with the labels “Made in Makkah” and “Made in Medina” will soon be introduced, the Kigdom’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources has announced.

On January 9, Bandar Al-Khorayef stated during the Hajj Expo 2023 in Jeddah, “We will increase the quality of products created in Makkah and Madinah to be worthy of them.”

He further stated that in order to prepare for the launch of these items as part of the initial “Made In Saudi” program, the Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

As a part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives, the “Made in Saudi” program was introduced in March 2021 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Al Khorayeg.

Up to 400 agreements are expected to be made during the Expo, which runs through January 12 and aims to create a robust digital ecosystem that enhances pilgrims’ experiences.

The event will feature around 200 speakers and attendees from all over the world, 10 keynote sessions, 13 panel discussions and Hajj lectures, and 36 workshops. It will be sponsored by Makkah Governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.

A wide range of topics, including logistics, transportation, and crowd control operations, that are important to the development of services for visitors will be covered and highlighted during the conference.

Additionally, there will be an emphasis on enhancing the pilgrims’ experiences as well as accommodation and hospitality services, food services, facilities and service management, and safety and healthcare.

Following the opening ceremony, the Governors of the Makkah and Madinah areas unveiled the “Made in Makkah and Madinah” project as the attendees watched a multimedia presentation showing the Kingdom’s efforts to assist the pilgrims.

After seeing a sharp fall as a result of COVID-19, the Kingdom hopes to considerably raise the number of pilgrims in the next years.

The “Made in Saudi” program is a part of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program run by the Saudi Export Development Authority. Its goal is to support the expansion of regional businesses by encouraging residents to purchase more goods made in the region and boosting exports to key markets.
