The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) in Saudi Arabia revealed the legally prescribed penalties for a self-employed expatriate or working for his own account in the Kingdom who violates the law

Saudi Jawazat, via its official Twitter handle, specified three penalties for an expat who works for himself or herself, and they are as follows:

  1. A monetary penalty of up to 50,000 Saudi Riyals.
  2. A jail sentence of up to 6 months.
  3. Deportation of a expat national.

In Saudi Arabia, Jawazat urged everyone to report violations of the Residency and Border Security regulations by dialing 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and 999 in the rest of the Kingdom.

Jawazat previously confirmed that an employer who leaves his workers to work for their own account or for sums of money they pay him is a thief (In the name of Azad Visa or Free Visa). Such employers will be fined 5,000 riyals and imprisoned for one month the second time, 20,000 riyals and imprisoned for two months the third time, and 50,000 riyals and imprisoned for three months the fourth time.

If a resident expat works for a non-employer or works for his own account, he will be deported to his home country; if an expat worker employs another expat worker for the benefit of an employer other than the original employer, he will be fined 5,000 riyals or imprisoned for one month, or both; and if the employer is expat, he will be fined 10,000 riyals or imprisoned for one month, or both

In every case, the fine will be multiplied by the number of workers against whom the violation was recorded, and the violating expat will be deported at his own expense, as well as denied recruitment for the purpose of work for at least a year the first time, two years the second time, and three years the third time.
