Four internet offenses have been identified by the Saudi Public Prosecution, with maximum fines of 5 million Riyals. The authority affirmed that all forms of electronic fraud are regarded as serious crimes that call for arrest.
The Public Prosecution stated that it is illegal to falsify any online register, e-sign, create a false attestation certificate, use any of these with knowledge that it is fraudulent, or even use any of these in accordance with Article 23, Number 6 of the Electronic Transactions Law of Saudi Arabia.
According to Article 24 of the Electronic Transactions, the penalties for electronic fraud include a fine of up to 5 million riyals, a term of imprisonment of up to 5 years, the confiscation of the equipment used in the breach, and extra publication of the judgment after it has been rendered.
In an interview with Al-Riyadh, a lawyer named Hisham Al-Faraj stated that Article 4 of the Penal Code for Forgery Offenses Law, which was established by Royal Decree number (11) stipulates that anyone who falsely signs or provides a sign attributing it to a public body or to one of its employees with the employee’s job title will be punished with imprisonment for up to 7 years and a fine of no more than 700,000 riyals
