There are 3 types of Hajj in Islam | Ifrad | Qiran | Tamattu

There are three different types of hajj in Islam: hajj Ifrad, hajj Qiran, and hajj Tamattu, which many Muslims are unaware of.

1- Hajj Ifrad

The first type of Hajj in Islam we are going to discuss today is Hajj Ifrad. Hajj Ifrad is also known as isolated Hajj as it is not accompanied by Umrah. The one who performs an isolated Hajj is known as Mufrid.

Who can perform Hajj Ifrad?

People who reside within the Miqat, or the limits, such as those in Jeddah, typically conduct the Hajj Ifrad. Only for the Hajj is the Ihram required. Before the Hajj, why is the Kaaba Kiswah raised?

No Umrah with Hajj Ifrad

In Islam, one who performs this kind of Hajj is not permitted to perform Umrah. He is no longer performing Hajj Ifrad if he makes Umrah during the Islamic months of Shawwal, Dhul-Qa’dah, and Dhul-Hijjah.

If someone completes Umrah during these three months, he must now complete one of the other two types of Hajj recognized by Islam. “Hajj and Umrah” explains the reasons why it is not possible to register Hajj for some people

Sacrifice in Hajj Ifrad

A Mufrid must first throw stones at Jamarat in order to leave the state of Ihram. On the day of Eid, the stoning takes place at the Jamrah Al Aqabah. A Mufrid can provide an animal sacrifice, although he is not required to.

2- Hajj Qiran

This type of Hajj is also known as the Accompanied Hajj in Islam. Hajj Qiran is a concession by Allah towards those who do not live near the sacred Mosque. The one who performs this type of Hajj is known as Qarin in Islam.

Ihram for Hajj Qiran

The Ihram must be worn by a Qarin with the aim to do Hajj and Umrah. It must be completed before the Hajj days begin. How was Hajr e Aswad stolen?

It must be made clear that even if there is a significant amount of time between Umrah and Hajj, Hajj Qiran cannot leave the state of Ihram until both his Hajj and Umrah are complete.

Sacrifice in Hajj Qiran

After the Hajj, Qarin is required to sacrifice an animal he brought from Miqat.

3- Hajj Tamattu

The third type of Hajj in Islam is Hajj Tamattu and the one who performs it is called a Mutamatti.

This type of Hajj in Islam is also accompanied by Umrah. However, a Mutamatti enters Ihram for Umrah and leaves the state of Ihram, he can then enter a new Ihram for Hajj. People who perform Tawaf al Qadoom are actually performing Hajj Tamattu.

While he is not in a state of Ihram he is allowed to do things that are Haram for people wearing Ihram.

A Mutamatti is liable to offer an animal sacrifice. However, Allah Almighty has briefed in Quran that if a person cannot offer a sacrifice, he shall fast for 10 days including the 3 days of Hajj.

The remaining 7 fasts can be kept by him after he returns to his home.

What is the best type of Hajj?

Despite the fact that there are three different types of hajj in Islam, most Muslims who travel to Saudi Arabia from across the Islamic world conduct the Hajj Tamattu. Before the Hajj, they do an Umrah, leave the Ihram state, and then return to it.

On the other hand, those who reside in the Miqat undertake the Hajj Ifrad.
