Even if Saudi Arabia cut Sri Lanka’s pilgrim quota for this year, the cost of sending Hajj pilgrims to the Kingdom is still too much for the government to handle.

In a statement to the country’s Department of Muslim Religious Affairs, the All-Ceylon Hajj Tour Operators Association and the Hajj Tour Operators Association of Sri Lanka said that due to the ongoing prevailing situation and the suffering that the people of our Mother Lank are experiencing, members of both associations have decided to sacrifice this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. According to Ahkam Uwais, chairman of the National Hajj Committee in Sri Lanka’s Department of Muslim Religious Affairs, the entire Hajj operation for Sri Lankan pilgrims will cost roughly ten million dollars, which is a significant sum given the country’s current predicament.

In an interview with Arab News, he explained that the choice to sacrifice this year’s Hajj is a generous gesture by members of the Muslim community who are willing to sacrifice their pilgrimage for the welfare of the country.
