Heritage researcher Ahmed Al-Washmi revealed the reason for naming the capital, Riyadh, by that name, indicating that the city has a geostrategic advantage that is not present in any of the Kingdom’s regions. Al-Washmi said that Riyadh was called this because it was characterized by many green gardens, and its land was flat and abundant with water.
He pointed out that the region is distinguished by the abundance of valleys, the most famous of which are Wadi Hanifa and Wadi Al-Batha, adding that what distinguishes it as well is that the heights around it supply its valleys with reefs and feed them with water.
