The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has directed the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) to send urgent medical, humanitarian and shelter assistance to those affected brothers in Turkey as a result of the recent earthquake that struck the Aegean Sea, causing severe material damage to the Turkish state of Izmir.

This comes out of his keenness to stand by the brotherly Turkish people and mitigate the effects of the earthquake, which caused heavy losses of lives and property, and an extension of the humanitarian role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by standing with those affected, in various crises and tribulations reports Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The death toll in Aegean Sea earthquake rose to 116, as rescuers in the Turkish city of Izmir finished searching buildings that collapsed in the quake measuring 7.0 on the Ritcher scale.  – Turkey has a mix of older and new buildings made of cheap or illegal construction that do not bear earthquakes well. Regulations have been tightened in order to strengthen or demolish older buildings, and urban renewal is underway in Turkish cities, but experts say it is not happening fast enough.
