With the increasing demand these days for purchasing computers, in light of the Ministry of Education’s decision to hold distance study for a period of 7 weeks; Due to the repercussions of the new Corona virus, technical experts provided advice to students and parents with distinctive “laptop” specifications, and warned them about the low-quality devices that are spread in many outlets.
Technical expert Abdulaziz Al-Hammadi called for avoiding purchasing a “laptop” with low specifications, indicating that these devices are widespread and their price is cheap but have poor efficiency. Among their specifications is that the resolution of their screens is 1366 x 768 or less, and the memory is 4 GB or less, and often its processor is of Celeron or Pentium type.
He added that the processor speed in these devices is less than 2GHz, and does not have the “Turbo Boost” feature, indicating that these specifications make the devices impractical and poor performance. On the other hand, specialists clarified the specifications of the devices that are characterized by appropriate performance, calling on users to specify the work they want to do to determine the appropriate devices for them before buying. Among the specifications that make the devices work with high efficiency and good performance: CPU: Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors provide better performance for the device, and the higher the class, the stronger the performance, right up to the Core i9 class, but it has a very high price compared to the lower classes, as for AMD processors, the Ryzan 5 class is considered mid-range, and the Ryzan class 7 is capable of handling tasks much better than Ryzen 5 processors, and rivals Intel Core i7 processors.
first: Clock Speed: It is measured in gigahertz (GHz), and it indicates the number of operations a processor can perform per second, and the higher the number; The machine was faster. The second: the number of cores: the processor is often dual-core or quad-core, and some newer models have up to six or eight cores, and the greater the number of cores; The performance was better, especially if several programs were running simultaneously. Random access memory (RAM): For good performance, it is recommended to have a RAM of 8 GB or more, and for the best performance, 16 GB RAM is recommended. For video games, using a 32 GB RAM gives the device better performance.
Screen size and resolution: The screen size is determined based on the work to be done on the device, and there are those who prefer small and thin devices, and there are those who prefer large devices, but most devices that come in a size of 13.3 inches, often do not support “Intel Core i7” processors or separate graphics cards other than devices of size 15.6 inches, and smaller devices likely don’t have many ports. And in terms of screen quality, be careful to be comfortable to look at, and the best resolution is 1080 * 1920 pixels Full HD
3.0 port: It is recommended to have a device that has at least two USB 3.0 ports, which are ten times faster than the USB 2.0 ports, and this contributes to the faster transfer of files through them.
Finally, it is recommended when buying a new computer or “laptop” to obtain a guarantee, whether the purchase is through websites or from specialized markets and centers, and to keep a printed copy of the invoice or warranty card, as well as to keep the serial device number, model number, date of purchase and the name of the seller, as well as It is also recommended to install an anti-virus program.
