After Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended entry of Umrah pilgrims after a surge in Covid-19 cases in the Middle East, the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques revealed how the Grand Mosque undergoes extensive cleaning.
The Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques carries out washing and sterilizing the floors of the Ground Mosques four times daily. The main reason behind this is to ensure the safety of pilgrims and visitors. There are 13500 huge prayer rugs in the mosques.
According to Jaber Widaani, Director of Cleansing and Carpets Department at the Holy Mosques, all the rugs are being folded prior to washing and sterilizing of floor and spreading them out again on the floor.As reported by the Saudi Press Agency, “Well trained workers are engaged in the cleaning and sterilizing process by highly advanced equipments and materials in addition to spraying perfumes after it.
Further all these are done in record time and in well organised manners. There is utmost keenness to keep the Grand Mosque clean.
The department takes utmost keenness to keep the Grand Mosque clean and tidy at a time when the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs suspended entry of Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque to the Kingdom on a temporary basis. The ministry also suspended entry of tourists from the countries affected by the new Coronavirus.
