Sharing news and plans with others is a common activity of most of us. We tend to share the news and our future plans with others without even knowing that we shall, or we shall not. Even though we, as Muslims, know that Allah has planned everything for us and that plan is the best one.
As said by Allah Almighty Himself in the Quran, “Say, “Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.” And upon Allah let the believers rely on. – Quran 9:51

We also know that there is an evil eye: the evil eye is a true phenomenon which has been discussed by Islam. Less we know about it the less we take care of it. Yet as its name, the evil eye is evil in nature. This is the reason why the Prophet PBUH has asked us to maintain our privacy.
We shall not share forthcoming good news and plan with everyone as the evil eye may alter it. The Prophet PBUH has advised us to maintain privacy while sharing our goals, achievements, and plans with others.
According to a narration by Mu’adh ibn Jabal, the PBUH said: Seek help while your needs are being met in seclusion as those who are blessed are always envied.
‘O, Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.’ ” – Sahih al-Bukhari 3371
Thereby confidentiality shall be maintained. The devil is an evil figure who tends to become happy at loss of people of Allah. He is the open enemy of all the people and he can throw his card when things are being blessed to you to make things worse for you.
Quran teaches you to keep your plans secret
Even if we read Surah Yousuf, we shall know that plans shall be made private. In Surah Yousuf, Allah explained that the good news shall not be shared by Yousaf A.S with his own brothers as they may plan something negative against him in jealousy.
Prophet Yaqoob told Prophet Yousuf in the Quran: “O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy.” – Quran 12:5
Thereby, we should make sure that if a plan is in the process and things are going as per plan, we don’t need to share it with everyone. We can share it when the plan has become successful.
How can we apply the Hadith and Quran in our daily life?
You see, when you get a hint that you will be promoted, remain relaxed and keep the news to yourself until you really get promoted: not everyone gets promoted and everyone wants to.
If you have conceived a child, ladies don’t tell it to everyone; there are many who are waiting for the blessing. If you are blessed with health, don’t make it public: there are many who cherish it! May Allah protect us all! Ameen!
